You rush up the stairs and feel almost dizzy from the twisting of the staircase. The experience is somewhat similar to being thrown into a large washing machine turned on "Cold Rinse."
At the top of the tower, you see a Giant Golden Bell. A single sage stands guard near it.
Sage Li: "This is the mouth of the bellsprout."
He strikes the bell once with a large hammer and the tone rings heavily in your ears.
"Bellsprout has spoken. He wishes me to battle you!"
The Battle Begins
The two of you face each other on the wooden platform ready for battle. You anticipate that he will use Bellsprout and take out your Cindaquil. "Go Cindaquil." However, he calls out his Hoothoot.
"Cindaquil, use your ember!" you cry out.
The fire pokemon shoots out its flaming quils and strikes a direct hit on the Hoothoot.
Li's Hoothoot lands on the golden bell all bruised and burnt.
All this time, the sage has said nothing but has sat silently watching the battle.
"Go again Cindaquil."
Again Cindaquil launches its quils and again it is a direct hit.
Suddenly, Hoothoot does something unexpected. It flies underneath the golden bell and uses its Hypnosis. You quickly realise this and you block your ears just in time.
Unfortunately, Cindaquil is not ready and the fire pokemon curls up into a deep sleep.
Hoothoot vs Hoothoot
"Come back Cindaquil! Okay, two can play this game," you cry. "Come out Hoothoot."
The two owls stare at each other. "Hoothoot use Hypnosis," you call, mindful that your ears are still blocked.
The two owls immediately start hooting low pitch, trying to mesmerize each other with its eyes. Li's Hoothoot, who was already tired from the embers that hit it, fell asleep first.
Trouble with Bellsprout
Li withdraws his pokemon and sends out his last one; a Bellsprout.
The Bellsprout has golden leaves and has red marking on its head, probably drawn there by Li as religious symbols.
The Bellsprout quickly attacks using Vinewhip. Two tendrils appear and lash your Hoothoot. Hoothoot, however, uses its peck attack, which is super effective against the plant pokemon.
Li knows he needs to do something fast and he takes out his hand from beneath his robe and forms a fist, a sign for his pokemon to execute a special move.
You realise it is Stun Spore as the pollen shoots out from Bellsprout's mouth and paralyses your Hoothoot.
Your Hoothoot is helpless and Li wins the battle.
